Hi there! Living in Springfield, have a total of 5 grown kids, and one 15 year old boy, 4 small dogs, 2 cats, and 8 hens with 1 rooster. And my mom in law lives across the street!

We garden together, share veggies and eggs with our neighbors, and would like to start selling our "surplus" eggs to anyone interested in eating something fresh and healthy, (not to mention, delicious)! Any suggestions on prices? I don't believe I should sell them at store cost, but does a buck a dozen sound reasonable? I have to offset the price of feed, eventually.

Other than that, if you live in Springfield, feel free to send a hello my way.

Glad to be in Missouri.. Not a native, but have lived in this state longer than all the others I've lived in, combined, which is somewhere in the 25 year range, I guess. And yes, I live in a regular neighborhood, in the northside of town, and raise chickens! haha! BYC has taught me so much! I guess I'm a kind of rebellious sort. I got tired of buying those yucky tasteless eggs in the store, and decided to raise my own. Well, I don't do it all on my own.. I have a wonderful hubby, who can fix practically anything, and is willing to put up with my crazy whims! HE'S the one who's done most of the "dirty work".. i.e. build nesting boxes, the roosting area in the "chicken shed", etc.. etc... I wouldn't have been able to have chickens, w/o him. But, he loves the results of our efforts, that's for sure..
And I'm rambling! lol! Gee, all I wanted to do was say hi! >.<

Welcome to all the new Missourians here. FeatherPants, I would not sell them for less than $2.50 a dozen. People will realize what a good tasting egg is and not even think twice about paying a little more for it. Just my opinion.

Fudgie - I missed the sale but I guess you figured that out, LOL. I ended up having friends come down and then Sunday ended up in the ER and having emergency Gallbladder surgery. Just got home today and an really sore but glad to have that over with. Hope to catch the next one.

Hey Featherpants...I'm in Springfield too (a transplant coming up on 2 years)! I'm just north of town, have chickens, rabbits, dogs, cats, & we're of an age.

As for selling eggs, I'd say no less than 2 bucks (with clean carton) (at that price you don't want to be buying them), 3 seems more reasonable, but we're cheap around here...

Yeah I noticed that, you did not miss much. If you were selling it was GOOD and we were selling. There was not much avail at that auction. DD did really good for what she took. She was so happy. She set amounts and if the animals did not bring that, she was going to nosale. She did not have to no sale anything. they brought more than her price so that was GREAT! They changed their dates and added more. Here's the schedule

Sept 12,
Oct 10
Oct 31
Nov 14
Dec 12

They said they are going to sell year round and not stop. SO that is good for us that need to find good birds for the spring/summer or eggs for that matter.
