Calling on Dog Experts - Guess the breed [IMG HEAVY]

This is the test we were looking into:
http://www.wisdompanel.com/
It requires a vet to order and carry out the procedure and send it to their lab.

Basenji mix? I think she looks very much like she has that in her (especially in the face and overall stance), but they are not common in my area. In fact I never saw one in person. Plus, granted the amount of the mix in her, I would have assumed she would have more of their characteristics in her just as the curled tail and the "yodeling" bark.

As for the shelter not labling pits... I heard of that, but this one had pure pits and other pit mixes that were very apparent looking and others that I wouldn't have guessed had pit in them still openly labeled and adopted out as pits. They didn't lie about their breeding so why would they have lied about my particular dog? That's what has me really confused and even more so doubting the pit breeding.

My dad told me not to worry about this, that "just because someone looks Italian doesn't mean they are Italian," but I guess it's all down to the results, I am praying so hard that she's not a pit cross because I love her and don't want to have to give her up. She had a very rough life before we adopted her... I just wanted her second chance to be perfect....

so far it looks like odds are against us.

This
is the link to the test you can do from home. They do not identify pitbulls, but that might work in your favor. With breeds that they cannot yet identify, the results will show an ancestor of that breed. It's not considered legal proof though, but it might get your neighbor off your back

The price has actually increased since I last looked into it. It's $79.95 now.

Here's their FAQ page http://www.mmigenomics.com/faqcanher.html

Thank you very much. I actually came across that one online when I was looking, but this lady actually specifically "recommended" the one I linked; it recognizes all types of pit bulls - go figure. Believe me, I'd rather do yours.

Thanks for posting the link to the other one. I didn't know there was more than one company that did this. I think MMI handle the AKC DNA registry (think LOL, but then it might be the AQHA one!), so you'd think they'd have more diverse breeds recorded. I might just get the blood test version done on one of my dogs. I'd been waiting for MMI to come up with more markers as they don't have a couple of the breeds I think she might have in her. She's half Black Lab, half mystery shaggy dog. My husband says leave it be, she's just a good neighborhood dog and I won't find another like her. He calls her a Labradork. I wish you luck with your dog and your pesky neighbor.

I thought Basenji too. We have one and the face is similar. The thin coat and tail make for a pit suspect. Seems to be kind of short in leg proportion. Maybe corgi? Okay, it's not THAT short but it would get you out of your extra expenses. But you should know that GSDs are always in the top 5 breeds when looking at dog bite/"aggressive" dog statistics.
The following is from the site www.stopdogattacks.com

"Dog bite statistics are pretty hard to tie down.

That’s not to say there aren’t any, it’s just very often the case that the bite stats we do see can be skewed depending on the source or circumstances in which they were recorded.

For instance, if we take dog bite statistics based on people needing hospital attention, it would no doubt leave us under the impression that certain bigger dogs were more prone to bite. This wouldn’t be the statistic we were really seeing though. What we would learn from that stat is that the bites from certain bigger dogs will more commonly require hopsital treatment than those of smaller breeds. So in theory in a sample month, 5 Labradors could bite people and all may require treatment but in the same month Yorkshire Terriers could bite 25 people of which none would require treatment. If we were to take the hospital records as the pure statistic though we’d be left under the impression that Labradors bite more people than Yorkshire Terriers.

It is a stupid penalty you face, based on the behavior of an unfortunate lot of dogs that have been bred and handled by stupid people - dogs that have been encouraged by their stupid owners to be aggressive.

You are experiencing one of the main reasons everyone should be against breed specific policies. Dogs should be judged on their own merits not on their breed or possible breed or what someone "thinks" might be their breed.

Your dog may not be any particular cross at all, but just a complete mix, deriving characteristics from many ancestors. As an example, my cousin once got a puppy from a litter with two mixed breed parents. All the puppies looked very different from each other and different even from the parents. You would have never known they were all related. One puppy looked like a beagle mix, another like a shepherd mix and still another like a Lhasa mix.

This is so dumb! This lady seems to be the only one who has a problem with my dog and just because she's on the Committee, she thinks she has the almighty power. Sabina is actually very leggy. Everytime I take a picture of her I tend to shoot it more from up-looking down, so the images come out a pit odd looking...it makes her looks a lot stubby and a bid wider than she actually is... (all I have is my camera phone, lol). See this is what I do not understand. I personally know that GSDs tend to be more aggressive and often do have bit cases...but for some reason they are not on the "bad list." Due to a pit bull mix incident a while ago, any bull dog are strongly taken into account and some breeds like Dobermans that have a more "sinister look" are also looked into...but nothing as serious as the pit and pit mixes. We live in a smaller semi-farming town and many people have herding dogs...the shepherd is seen more of a working dog than a guardian here. They don't care that Sabina's half Shepherd...they care about what the other part of her may be.

Haha - "all American," I like that.

By the way she plays, I figured at one point a terrier breed, but I'm not sure which one. I honestly don't think she's a pit mix (not that I wouldn't want one...I just can't have one). In the way she plays, I can see boxer, but who knows. She does that "boxing" move when she jumps up, leaps and pounces. She's very light on her feet and does have a very soft mouth...she doesn't "lock" onto things when you play tug-o-war. She has a more "athletic build" she's not real muscling, so I think she's mixed with something more dainty and refined.

Honestly, I don't see why my dog and family are being put through this crap. We always had purebred dogs that we got directly from breeders, but after Sasha's (our previous dog) death, I went looking through the SPCA and fell in love with Sabina. I felt like it was the right thing to do; to give her a second chance at life, but this is just proving to be more hectic and stressing then joyful.

Thank you all for you thoughts and opinions. I appreciate your help. I guess we'll find out soon enough what she possibly is and whether or not I'll have to give her away. I'll keep you all up dated.
