So this is my second year with my own flock. We had our first hen go broody we let her sit 7 eggs hatching 2 the end of April. After the chicks hatched we moved the chicks only to a brooder and bought then friends. With that being said about 2 weeks into her sitting her clutch I started having my other 4 girls start to slack on their laying. I had 2 isa browns who have since passed, an buff orpington mix, and ameraucana mix. The ameraucana mix is my only steady layer right now. my orpington mix has stopped all together. She shows no signs is disstress or being unwell red comb and wattles. Does not act egg bound from what I've read. I have no clue about what happened to my ios sisters. I guess my question is it normal for a hen being broody to throw everyone else off so. Should I be concerned about my girl more then I already am? Any and all help is welcome Thanks

Short answer, yes.

Do you free range? They maybe laying out in range area.
How you manage a broody with chicks may have something to do with your housing.
Dying birds could be disease in the flock.

Knowing more about your goals for keeping chickens,
-your flock size(numbers, ages, genders),
-your coop(size in feet by feet with pics),
-and what and how exactly you are feeding,
might offer clues to if there is a solvable problem.

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

I do not free range my birds. Everyone was laying fine till Sketch went broody. We let her set in the coop which may have been a bad idea. The girls have always shared a big nesting box big enough that they sometimes had 4 nests however they mostly all laid in the same one. I had a total of 6 birds 5 hens and my roo. I have checked for mites and lice we have had no weird poops. All of my birds are over a year old. One day I will hopefully not only have eggs but have duel purpose birds. For now im just enjoying my flock i will have to get some coop pics uploaded, THANK YOU
