Can a chicken be a house pet?

I think I might try it with a silkie. But, how do I know when to take the diaper off for egg laying? Think it could keep a tight schedule for that?

I've made a lot of diapers for people who keep them in the house. I have 2 small young children and do daycare so I get plenty diapers to change already.

Yes you might be nuts !! ....but to each their own.
Chickens need dirt baths so they can get rid of mites, ticks, fleas and whatever bloodsucking critter thrives on animals...if they are not able to do this naturally with dirt, it could be a huge problem to their health and your's.
Also, they need to be around other birds........dont deny your bird that please. only my opinion, not to be negative.

In the Natural History of the Chicken.......can be viewed in six parts on youtube....it shows this crazy lady with a white silky house chicken. She bathes and blow drys it everyday and takes it with her every where. Funny, crazy but kinda cool for the silky.

Just thinking here that if a chicken is in the house getting proper hygiene........would it still get mites etc???

OK....now that we have all determined that I'm NUTS ( I completely agree ) I have decided that I AM going to have a house chick. Matter of fact been working out the fine details of ordering diapers here on the side.

So.....any advice to a crazy lady on what to get? Is silky the best choice?

there are chicken diapers. We've seen house chickens on Tv. Funny videos I think.
