I have only had chickens in the past, but my father is wanting to get a batch of quail & wanting me to go in with him and take half. I have wanted quail, but am totally clueless. I have an old chicken coop/pen (8'x8' run & 8'x4' coop). My question is I have no way to "pair off" the quail once grown. I would be getting 15-20 bobwhites.

Can these birds be raised together or will I need to find some other kind of housing?? THanks

You would be able to "raise" 15 to 20 Bobwhites from chicks in an 8'x8' space. And you can "winter over" adult Bobwhites in the said space, however you will not be able to keep breeding pairs in this tiny space at all. They WILL kill each other. You would need to build pens for each pair. Bobs are highly territorial during breeding season, April thru Sept., and do not tolerate other Bobs in with them. Only during the off breeding season, Oct thru March, can you keep Bobs in tight spaces all together.
