Can anyone help ID the predator from holes?

There’s four holes (Maybe 3-4 inches in diameter) outside my chicken/duck run. The critter gave up before it even got to the buried hardware cloth. There is food out but it’s in two pvc pipes with caps on either end so even if it got in it wouldn’t get food.

Here’s some known predators in my area (Los Angeles, close to the mountains)

• Raccoons
• Rats and mice
• Skunks
• Feral cats
• Feral dogs
• Coyotes
• Foxes (none have been reported in the area for as long as I’ve lived here but they do live in SoCal)
• Opossum
• Hawks
• Owls

Obviously it’s not some of those but I figured I’d add every possibility.

Skunks dig holes like this. Do you have other holes like this in your yard? If so, it's a skunk digging for grubs in your yard.

No other holes. I do have a garden but it’s also fenced off.

I'm still leaning toward skunk.
Do you have a trail camera you can put out? If it is a skunk, it will be coming after midnight.

Rats is my guess.
Looks like what I have had to deal with here as well.
Yesterday my German Shepherd dispatched a large rat for me.Left it on my terrace.

If it’s a rat hopefully my cats will cat it or at least chase it away ahahaha

My guess would be rats. If you have tunnels there is a colony around. Hopefully your cats will take care of them. Some cats are good and will, and other cats could care less. The cats can't go down in the tunnels. I have several game cameras. I like to see what predators are lurking around especially at night when the predators roam here. If they don't bother my birds, I don't bother them, but if they mess with my birds, I will eliminate them if the opportunity arises. Most predators do keep returning especially if they have made a kill.

The holes only go about 6 inches deep each and they don’t connect. Are rats still the suspect?
