Can anyone help us to understand what to expect with Holderread order?

. Can y'all tell me if these are all the same breed or not? It seems as if I have what I suppose are Golden Cascades. Although I only ordered 4 of em. They're a bit bigger but they look the same. Some are darker and some are lighter so I'm not really sure.

If you got them from Holderread as Golden Cascades they are right. Dark ones are males, lighter ones females. The only duck breed where you can tell sex by color from hatch! Isn't that a great thing? No more waiting and guessing...

Could you post a pic of your golden cascades so I can See how they look like? I seem to have gotten 5 even tho I ordered 4 ill post some pics of the ones that look like the cascades.

Now you see the difference for yourself! Sorry bout not posting pics but the buggers would not cooperate... Lol

Did your box say you had any other breed beside the cascades? If not, then it would say they are all cascades.


Wildsam, I did not know the cascades are colored gender specific, where did you find that out? That is cool!

Storeys Guide to raising ducks! We had never heard of them before we read the book. He liked the pics and that they're visibly fe/male from hatch. Holderreads keeps that as a breeding standard.

If you look back at when I posted when I first got em it'll say what they sent. I ordered 4 Golden Cascades and it seems to me like I got 6 but they didn't send any bonus Cascades. They sent 2 White Appleyards as bonuses. I'll get a pic of all the ducks here soon. Unless the Saxony have a mallard look as well then I may be wrong.

Nope. Saxonies are yellow fuzzies. I got white appleyards too and can't find anything really on them. Just that they're a heavy breed and the males look like Pekins. How am I supposed to tell them apart?!?

We got saxony ducklings also, and also hatched 5 ourselves. Not quite sure how many fe/males yet but we'll see. If you lived a bit closer we could swap some!

Sorry, I thought I looked back far enough, but apparently not. If you look at my pictures of the saxony you can compare. I ordered top show quality and regular saxony. They look different. The regular look like faded tan mallards. Check it out.
