Hi, I would like to know if there are bird predators in Michigan that would take 9 ducklings. I’ll post pictures of the crime scene. Also three duckies survived and are safe.

Can you explain the set up and what happened ? It happened from the side? And these brown feathers are by the blood?

9 is an awful lot for any predator , how long were they alone ??

I don't think that feather belongs to the killer, unless there were more than one predator. Birds of prey do make a mess when eating, but I've never seen or heard of one taking 9... this happened in one night I'm assuming? I would think more along the lines of a fox, skunk, raccoon, or maybe a dog.

The ducklings at this age can escape through that fencing. If you can, you should beef up the bottom with hardware cloth. Once they grow, they won't be able to slip though, but raccoons could still reach through. So hardware cloth 2-3' up would be best.
Michigan has all sorts of predators on land and in the air. But, a bird of prey would only be able to get in from the top of an open run or if there was a good sized opening somewhere else for them to get through. They wouldn't try to pop through that fencing. It looks like whatever got to them, got to them on the outside.
Also, depending where you are in MI, your predators are different.

Thank you people for replying to this post, my brother wanted to try and figure out what took our ducklings and saw feathers and wanted to know where they’re from. Anyways my father put a trap to see if anything would try to come back for the rest of the duckies, (don’t worry the 3 duckies are safe), and we did catch a possum. It was probably the possum. Anyways thank you all for replying, now I can tell my brother that hey, people did reply and tryed to help. Thank you and adios!

Ikr? I kinda thought it was a bird and my brother was like “hey there’s a feather” and I remembered that these crows ripped apart these small birds (I’m guessing it’s crows since they like to hang out in the bathing bowl and we used to see small cute birds there). So we kinda thought it was a bird predator.

Also it’s possible that it was the possum that my dad caught in the trap.
