Can anyone tell me what is happening here?

Her comb has always been much bigger than all the others! This is Lucille and she is the same age as Bertha

How long has the comb been that red?
I think I see some pointy hackle feathers.
They, and pointy saddle feathers, should be growing more obvious soon.

I love to say they are "screaming" at whatever it is to alert their partners. Roosters will usually be first to do it, but in a flock of hens like ours, the head girl usually will do this. Moms will do it to their babies to make them aware too. Ours will usually either run into the chicken house or stay perfectly still depending upon what it is and how close.
