Hi, I'm hopefully hatching some Coturnix Quail this week, but this morning I realize I've caught a cold. Lots of sneezing/coughing and a runny nose means lots of germs everywhere and my soon to be baby quails are indoors with me. I turned my whole walk-in closet into a quail pen (what else can a tomboy do with a walk-in closet anyway

), so me going in and out the closet to check on the eggs or work on the pen has probably already put my germs everywhere in their area. Is this something I need to worry about? I know colds are very contagious and can even be passed on to dogs, but Quail? Would it hurt them?

Hello, the answer is no.

Things like that are species specific.

Also you can't catch bird lice for the same reason. Though their are some things that are considered zoonotic, transferable between human and animal... a cold is not one of them.

Hope you feel better!
