I noticed bumblefoot in my 30week old Leghorn on Friday. Due to my work schedule I couldn't treat her until today. She had it on both feet, one more swollen than the other. She seemed fine....walking without a limp, eating ,drinking and laying everyday.
I printed out a nice thread for the procedure, got all my supplies and it was going fine. Started to get alot of gunk out of the foot and she seemed to be doing fine, had her wrapped in a towel and she wasn't in distress. Then she started to twitch and died!
I'm brokenhearted ....she was a sweet girl and laid an egg everyday since 16 weeks of age. I know the infection is staph aureus...could it go systemic that fast ? So wishing I had stayed home from work and dealt with it right away. I feel like an awful chicken momma.

Sorry for you loss. The staph may have made it to her legbone. Once it gets there, the infection spreads rapidly throughout the system. There's not much that couldve been done.

Thanks Dawg 53.
That's what I was thinking but afraid to admit. I'm going to beat myself up a little while longer and move on.
I notice you on the site alot and wanted to say thanks for your wealth of knowledge and good advice to all of us!
