Can chickens actually taste what they are eating?

Chickens have a range of receptors in their beaks it has been fairly recently discovered.
Scientists are still trying to work out what each receptor does.
Hopefully, anyone who reads this will reconsider the wisdom of beak trimming.

Yes, thank you @Shadrach ! I've wondered about this because they recently discovered a sensor in the beak of a bird who migrates from South America to North of Canada. Apparently it picks up magnetic pull. So they now know this bird uses the magnetic lines of the Earth to help navigate its journey.

My chickens can sense a hawk or Eagle several minutes before it comes into view. I used to think it was the reaction of other birds that signaled the predators arrival but now I wonder if it isn't a built in sensor because they don't react the same for passing crows and herons.

If and when you feed something expensive, you would feed it because of the nutrition, not because the chickens like it.
You may like candy and ice cream but you don't eat that exclusively.
I could probably be happy just eating porterhouse steak, baby back ribs and pasta, but instead I eat leafy greens, mushrooms, yams and herring because that's what's good for me.

ETA- The mental image this conjures; Us rolling up in some windowless van, panel door flies open, we rush out wearing tactical masks and hoodies with our gang insignia and just run up on random strangers, ripping off their sweatshirts and producing a box with chicks that we place on them, all while whisper shouting (so as not to upset the chicks) "Look at them! You look at those chicks!!"

How do we tag our turf? Do we just throw little doo doos on whats ours and dare people to cross us? Seems logical, our "buisness" box will supply us enough to claim a crazy amount of turf.
Btw if anybody won't get with the program we shove them in a TSC stock tub fly their chicked up sweatshirt as a victory flag overhead and throw scratch at them until they break.
I also request one very tame silkie chick I can flourish gangster style so I can intimidate if I have to.
