Can chickens actually taste what they are eating?

Have yours started doing they're dust baths yet? My Easter egger was dragging herself up and down the compacted dirt path in our garden yesterday and I about died laughing.

I finally took pity and plopped a pile of dry-ish (this is Seattle, nothing's ever totally dry) down and she went to town. So adorable!

Yes! One of mine tried dust bathing in my sweatshirt at a week and a half old LOL I will have to find the video!! And I need to put some dirt in the brooder lol haven’t given them more since they were a week old but when i let them out they all dust and sunbathe too lol

I forget what I did an hour ago, The spanish rice was a dinner treat by morning i'm in that "what spanish rice?" mode.
I do however have a brand new, pristine bottle of corid in my fridge just.waiting for impending doom now.

yeah I’m pretty forgetful too sometimes lol it’s bad.

And wait. Is corid supposed to be refrigerated? Lol

I put all the meds in the fridge whether it needs it or not.
It extends the safely useable lifespan quite a bit if you keep the meds cold.
Anybody who dosen't lnow me would call 911 if they got in my fridge because iv'e got to be a plague vector with all that in there.
Iv'e got a value sized tube of wormer right in front. I love making guests get their own drinks out of there with every fiber of my being.
I'm a bored chick, I make my own fun.

Chickens have a relatively good sense of both smell and taste, it's just different than ours. I mean, dogs have an excellent sense of taste and smell and they eat poop, so chickens enjoying eating sand and litter isn't that strange. Haha! Their natural omnivore diet consists of both salt/bitter/sweet food, and they need to differentiate to know if they're eating something they shouldn't.
