Can chickens not eat for one day

Where I live it's supposed to be -30 degrees and the wind chill -60 can the chickens go a day without food and water. It is a long walk from my house to the coop.

The biggest reason is as a livestock owner it becomes your unmitigated responsibility and obligation to ensure every one of your animals have access to water, feed and good shelter - EVERY DAY. You should consider giving up your chickens to someone more willing to take care of them.

But the good thing is that you asked and checked, which shows you are concerned, get your gloves and a hat on and a bucket of warm water for them and some warm mash , then a hot chocolate or whisky to reward yourself afterwards.

Why sure, as long as you don't eat that same day. If we can't provide for our animals, we should not have them.

Digestion is how they create heat no food means no fuel to keep warm. If you dont want to go hungry don't ask someone or something you are responsible for to go hungry.

Chickens need feed to keep warm. They eat more when it's cold. A chicken can get weak in 12 hours without water, and die in 24. GC

if the weather is really going to be that bad and it's not that bad yet string a rope from the house to coop so you have something to hold onto and guide you. that's what they did in the dustbowl days so they didn't get disoriented in the 100 or 200 yards to the barn. And tell somebody when you're going out there so they can watch for you.
