I was just wondering, can a double yolked egg sucessfully hatch 2 chicks? I doubt it, but was just wondering? Will one embryo absorb the other yolk? Or what?

I believe that Speckled Hen tried this recently and they developed quite far along, she tried to help out, but unfortunately it was not a positive ending.

Maybe she'll pipe in here.

I've seen one that did hatch 2 chicks but thats been years ago. There might be someone here that has, you could do a search.

Yes, a double-yolked egg can hatch. Talos321 hatched out one. It is under the heading Good Deal? It is a little farther down in the thread. The chicks names were Fiddle and Faddle. He had them for quite a while, but then something had broke into the pen and killed one of them.

My last hatch there was a double yolker I didn't notice. (from my lack of experience). Well after day 25 I noticed there was 2 babies that did not hatch.
I hear the odds are not good. But good luck to you. I am interested to see how this turns out.

When are you setting the egg? If you did already and I missed the post what day are you on?

I haven't set the egg yet, but will within the next day or 2. I am also going to put in a few Silver Laced Wyandotte eggs with it. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the luck from both of you.

Just back to let you know that I have set the double yolker on June 13th. Along with 3 pure bred Silver Laced Wyandotte eggs ,1 Barred Rock egg(I think) and an egg from my Black Giant{ I think}...lets see what happens.
