Can I eventually turn off my brooder light?

Mine are five weeks old and the last nights have been in the low forties with no light. They are in a coop with pine shavings and have no problems. Tonight it is supposed to get down to 38F, but there is no electricity in their new coop. I have no doubts they will make it through the night just like they did in the old days when there was no electricity. Don't get me wrong - I am getting tired of these chilly nights all the way into the middle of June.

i have a 3ftx3ft brooder with lights on both sides. i am currently runnign just one light as it is warm here in south georgia. i have blocked off the light from reaching the otherside of the brooder so it stays dark and they can come a go freely into the light or the darkness as they please.

This time of year it's hitting the mid-nineties to 100+ each day at my place so once they are more than a week old I turn the brooder lights off in the day and don't turn them back on until it's dark. Otherwise they can overheat.

Even for the youngest birds I make sure they've got room to get away from the heat if they want to and have good airflow and plenty of fresh, clean water.

Mine are 5 weeks and I just turned my light off. With the temps, the light just made it way too hot. It is funny how they quiet down when all of the lights are out. I wasn't expecting that!
