Can I feed adult quail gamebird starter?

I went to the feed store yesterday, and they said that they ran out of gamebird finisher, and it won't be for another 10 days until they re-stock. But they do happen to have gamebird starter (28% protein) and gamebird maintenance (15% protein). I'm trying to feed them birdseed mix (which is 15% protein), but they aren't really eating it, and I don't have much food to offer them besides some treats like fruits and alfalfa sprouts. Sometimes we give them egg. But I don't want them to starve themselves (I know that eventually they'll kinda eat it, but gamebird food really fills their stomachs).

So should I get gamebird starter? Or gamebird maintenance?

My youngest quail are around 8 weeks old, and my oldest are 10 months.
The bag is 20kg and normally lasts our quail for 4 months.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can feed starter feed all throughout the life of quail. Many folks do it, especially for growing meat and breeding birds. So if all the feed store is carrying is starter feed, then that will work out just fine. :)

that's all I feed mine.

Oh thank you so much for this thread!! I recently acquired an adult quail. Not sure how old he is, but my guess would be about 2. I was given a small amount of food from the person who gave him to me and was told it was chicken food (looks like scratch to me) after doing research I realized gamebird crumbles would be healthier than chicken food and so I went to my local feed store feeling a little lost and dazed trying to get everything I'd need for the little guy. I had two choices for gamebirds, a 50 pound bag (um, no) or a 5 pound bag. So, of course I grabbed the 5lb bag for only one quail but when I got home I realized it was starter/grower formula and panicked thinking I was feeding him something bad. Haha whew! Anyway thanks for the information everyone!
