Do y’all know any way I can cut feed cost for 14 chickens and 4 ducks. I go through a 50 pound bag of feed in about 8 days.
Chickens graze all day so make sure they have plenty of grass to eat.

Some times feed get wasted because the fling it out of the feeder. Treble feeders work well for this, I have a Grandpas feeder and I haven't had any wasted feed since I got it! I love mine, a anti pricey, but I think it is worth it!
I see other brands of treadle feeders on Amazon. Have you tried other brands:? Wondering if the less expensive ones work as well. Some times feed get wasted because the fling it out of the feeder. I have a treadle feeder, no Grandpa's but really keeps waste down and keeps rodents and sparrows out!Ya know... I’d never thought about this. Did you order yours or did you buy it in store?
Tell me about it... I’m convinced that I feed the rats more than the birds. I’ve thought about putting out rat poison but with me having cats and guineas (and the occasional visit from the neighbors’ dogs)... I don’t think that it’s a realistic option.![]()
It's not a good one.. from experience. Neighbors don't talk to me.. and as a side note. KEEP IT OUT OF YOUR WELL PIT! Hindsight is 20-20.. Foresight is myopic. They sell dispenser/container/trap things that only mice n rats can get into but other animals can't. We use them around our house bc we have dog and a mouse problem. My guineas almost killed one of my chickens when I free ranged. Aaaand they chase them into the woods. I hate my guineas but I have too many to catch & get rid of. So unfortunately I can’t free range my chickens. You can feed chickens loose change if you like if they'll eat it.. but a poor diet. Free range is good in good weather.. snow not so good. At least use cracked corn if you are that cheep.. Chicken mash doesn't cost that much more.. Monster Mash
I am confused to how it didn't work, and OF COURSE don't put it in your well!! The one I've shown the only way to get in is through the tiny hole and it's like a maze inside, the blocks are also too big to come through the hole...the top snaps on to put the blocks in.It's not a good one.. from experience. Yet another reason not to have guineas besides their annoying round the clock noise making..My guineas almost killed one of my chickens when I free ranged. Aaaand they chase them into the woods.
