can I feed my pigeons solely.....

I raise some bantams and ducks, so I always have layer pellets available, can I feed this as the sole ration to my pigeons? maybe with a little grain? Will this affect their production or health, and does anyone do this?

I feed layer pellets to mine. They do quite well on it. The up side is they don't waste it like grain where they pick out what they want and leave the rest. The down side is their droppings are looser. I use to mix some milo with it to help the droppings but they soon learned to leave the pellets and just eat the milo. If you look at the ingredients in a bag of pigeon checkers you'll see its almost identical to the layer pellets.

Ok, that's good to know about the droppings. The problem is that pigeon feed is so expensive!
