Can I keep peafowl and chickens together?

I was thinking of getting peafowl and I was wondering if you can keep peafowl and chickens together! Thanks.

@casportpony, do you keep chickens with your peafowl?

My mom's neighbor does it, so I know it does happen. Hopefully Casportpony or another peafowl keeper can let you know more about the ins and outs.

I do know that peacocks (and sometimes even peahens) will wander off if they can. My mom woke up one morning to a peacock in her backyard. She said it was one of the most magical experiences. The owner may have not felt the same when she woke up and found her peacock missing. Just something to consider.

i've seen them kept together but make sure to raise the peafowl with the chickens to make it easier

The honest answer is no. Chickens are disease factories for peafowl and during breeding season peafowl will often attack chickens. Also peafowl can carry Marek's with no ill effects while spreading it to chickens. Had someone call me not to long ago asking about why their high end super inbred breeds of chickens were dying of marek's. I suggested testing the peafowl and sure enough even though there were no symptoms the peas were positive for marek's.
