CAN I MIX MY SILKIES WITH MY POLISH ? WILL MY SILKIE COCK TRY TO MATE MY POLISH ? SORRY NEW TO IT AL

yes your dog does look like my gypsy she by the way is chickens mum lol she is with the brooder all the time watching over the chicks
Aww!! Sounds like my poodle with the chicks. My Koda (Gypsy look alike) prefers the bigger chicks. He is afraid of the broody hens because they attack him. Very good dog though, he never retaliates!!

Chloe LOVES baby fuzzy butts! It is wonderful when you have a dog that you trust completely. I trust these two 100% with my full grown poultry. Not so much with the babies, because they could easily roll over on them. I trust them not to intentionally hurt them for sure! I trust my cats as well :)

It depends. How bad? Are they pecking ferociously trying to hurt the 2 week olds?

I currently have a coop with the following:
1 silkie hen 1 silkie roo - both over a year
1 Silver Laced Wyandotte hen - injured hip recovering
10 babies - 8 weeks old
1 baby - 6 weeks old
3 silkies - 11 weeks old
21 babies - 1 week old (with their broody moms)
and 8 - 4 week old babies

The younger ones get pecked by the 8 week olds only. The 4 week olds get it the worst, but they can run and fly and hide.

I wouldn't leave them unattended unless you are sure they aren't being pecked to death.

no they just wondering what it is moving i think and they are not daft they will move or try and peck back . will sit with them a while then . thanks aoxa ps good job you are miles away i would be around yours after seeing your blog ha ha ha kay

I remember when I only had 9 chickens.. Are you in town? Are you allowed as many as you want?

Chicken math is deadly

I have 105 more birds then we started out with.

im in the united kingdom and no where near london lol you in canada so quite a few hundred miles away . what time a day is it where you are ? it is 16,00 hours here

The baby chicks have to establish a pecking order just like their parents. Usually it doesnt take long but on occasion you will have a group of "teenagers" gang up on the babies. If you can put the younger ones in a separate area inside the bigger pen where they can check each other out fr a few days before putting them all in together. that way the newness wears off and they wont be so hard on the little ones.
