This is my one of my Bobwhite Quail. His name is Zelda. We thought he was a girl at first and when we found out he's a boy, it just felt weird to rename him 😅. He is deformed, having a hunchback and a backwards leg. He's a rescue. He actually surprisingly does really well and has been out lived some of our other quail. He enjoys watching us at his little cage window. He also loves eating grass. Thank you! ❤️

My SLW had a weird stance as well. When she ran it was the cutest thing because she hobbled from leg to leg❤️ When she was a chick it didn't seem as if she had any deformities or anything🤔
Your hen is beautiful.
Thank you.

Maleficent always had a waddle prior to her injury, too. In hindsight, I wonder if she was slightly splay-legged and since I was new to chickens I didn't notice. She always walked like a little kid with sand in their swim suit at the beach, lol! She came from Hoover Hatchery. Where did your SLW come from?

I think Maleficent's weird way of walking was a precursor to the injury she sustained. In spite of catching it on camera, I never found a cause. It started with 1 leg and then a couple days later she injured the second one trying to compensate for the 1st one.

Now she waddles even more, but she gets around and just needs an occasional nail trimming. I love all my feather babies and she is one of the extra special ones -- even though she's not MY biggest fan.

If you're curious, here is her mystery injury caught on camera.

He is a handsome boy! You like to rescue injured birds, don't you? That is very kind!
