I want them for eggs, but I can't seem to find a place that gives me the information.
I live in the Town of North Hempstead Nassau County on Long Island in NY, zip is 11050. I suspect not but figured i would check anyway. If some one knows that is great.
Thanks, chickpee

I didn't want to call would rather read it for myself.
They put you on the town crazy list..

I did have a guy from long island comming over to take my other roo. But I dont know the town. You can call up the local town hall or police department.

Somewhere on here someone posted a link to a website that lists livestock regulations by municipalities - try doing a search...

Its in a code book at the local library-you can ask the librarian a non-specific question about codes for where you live and she will direct you to the proper place/book/chapter

Here's the code site but your town's not listed: http://www.municode.com/resources/code_list.asp?stateID=32

but
here ya go

You mght be in luck because I don't see anything there about agriculture (if chickens arent specifically prohibited, they sometiems fall into the agriculture "no livestock" ordinance) However I don't see any real clear land use ordinances in all this document, so that may be elsewhere.....

Oh, here it is!! http://gcp.esub.net/cgi-bin/om_isap...obase=hemp-bzo.nfo&softpage=Browse_Frame_Pg42

What zone do you live in?

For example Residence District A allows:
Agriculture or nursery, provided that there is no display for commercial purposes or advertisement on the premises.

But:
§ 302. Prohibited and restricted uses.
B.In any use district, no premises may be used or occupied and no structure erected or maintained for the harboring of pigeons, poultry, fowl, ducks, geese, swine, goats, sheep, lambs, horses, ponies, donkeys, snakes, cattle, monkeys, rabbits, chinchillas, minks, skunks, foxes or bees, except when permitted as a special exception by the Board of Appeals pursuant to Article XXVII (XXVII is here: http://gcp.esub.net/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=99634&infobase=hemp-bzo.nfo&softpage=Browse_Frame_Pg42)

So
, it looks like you have to go before the Board of Appeals...? If so, I can share with you the presentations we made to convince our town to change the zoning to allow chickens... just so you can see the argumants people might have and be prepared with the answers... let me know.

I think it sounds fairly hopeful that they've writeen in the possibility of a variance!! If you are talking about a small flock for you own egg use and as pets, I think you have a good shot at it. Feel free to email if you'd like to hear about how we did it. (although I will not be able to answer in depth till next week...)

Good luck
Stacey

What I did was look up the towns municipal office and looked at the rules and regulations. I don't know if that works but call your town office or police station
