Can I save her!?? Help!!!

If she makes it, I would definitely plan on putting her on oral antibiotics, to prevent an internal infection, after all that exposure to the outside. Poor hen. You are so kind to take her in for your little neighbor. I hope you are both still hanging in there this morning.

Sending good thought to ya Deb & that sweet little hen.

That is the proper product which should be used ... there is also an equivalent product sold for horses (I will have to look up the link...will do that when I get back...the product is at my board in the emergency section under INJURIES (gotta run to the store will post it when I get back)

This is just a little to think about. With her insides open to all the outside contaminates she will most likely get an infection. If you are able to get the wound sealed leave an area open for drainage. If you seal the wound completely it will seal IN the infection.

supplier of a difficult to find component described in the wound management articles (product description :
A "must have" product for advanced wound care. This is an over the counter, veterinary version of a prescription human product that has been used for many years to treat bed sores, deep abrasions and thermal burns. The active ingredient, Trypsin, is an enzyme that digests necrotic (dead) tissue, enabling it to be removed while at the same time, stimulating healthy epithelial cells to develop so that they can cover open or slow healing wounds. Can be used with or without bandaging. Use twice daily, washing debris away between applications. Labeled for use on dogs, cats, horses and cattle. Manufactured by Bertek Pharmaceuticals for Pfizer Animal Health."

Oh jeeze, I just read this...I'm sorry for that little girl and her bird.
DOOM ON LOOSE DOGS!!!
The internal organs need to be put back where they belong. It helps to keep them moist and she may not get an internal infection.

Poor Deb, when it rains it pours, Deb is probably packing and sending her chickens as well as this poor chicken.
I hope the dog hasnt been causing any dramas.
Its not like Deb to be away for so long, I hope all is alright.
