Whew!! what a day. ok, here are the updates. I got up this morning...she was standing. So I went to CVS, and bought Wound flush. I also bought Neosporin, sterile pads, and wrap. I get home.....get her out...and her feathers were stuck to her innards...so...Put on my rubber gloves....and rinsed, rinsed, rinsed....got all of her feathers picked loose, and rinsed some more. By this time, I could hear her breathing...sounds like a punctured lung. I look at my son who was helping me, and said....I dont think this is going to work. He said , Mom, you HAVE to...for Tony. UGH! Ok, so as I am rinsing, I tuck her innards back through the tear...and pull the skin down. then smear it well with neosporin...put a sterile pad over the wound, and lightly wrap her, to keep the meds on and dirt out. At this point, she is gasping for air. UGH! So, I stood her up, and talked gently to her...and said a little prayer. I dipped her beak in the water with electrolytes...she drank!! Then slowly layed down...and I gently stroked her back, and talked to her....told her she was going to be ok. I placed her back into her pen....very small pen so she cant get up and move around much. ( 2 x 3 ft pen.) And lef ther to rest. This afternoon....Maureen came from Ohio, to get the rescue hens. She took 12 hens and 2 roos, and one little frizzle roo of mine, that needed a home. THANKS MAUREEN!!!! After she left for home......this was probably 6 hrs after I dressed the hens wounds...I went to peek in on her...not sure what I would find. Expecting to find a hen, that has passed on. NOPE!! She is standing....eating....drinking...and just looking up at me like....GET ME OUT! LOL So, I took her out...cleaned her would again...and put more neosporin on it. and back in the pen. She is resting now....warm and safe. So far....so good. She made it past the 24 hr mark. I will watch for infection...and hope she does better. Thanks everyone...and so sorry it took so long to report, its been a LONG day!
