Can I shoot all these cats?

Next door neighbor used to let her cats roam free. Til one came home with a blow dart sticking out both sides. She had the nerve to ask if we had done it. I told her "no, it would have never been seen again as I use a large caliber rifle". Wife then informed her (she's a renter who moved in about 8 months ago) she lives in the sticks. Most people practice SSS. Her bewildered look prompted further explaination of SSS. Her one remaining cat now stays inside.

In some places people DO have the right to let their cats roam the neighborhood. That doesn't mean you have the right to deal with them how you want. You may hate cats, but that doesn't change any laws.

Most who live here in chesapeake in between rt 168 and rt 17 just run over them. I think it was mass did a study free roaming cats kill about 3 songbirds a day thats not counting baby rabbits chipmunks etc

I didn't realize there was a place where a majority of the population run cats over. Sounds delightful.

Around here ALL pets require a licence, and none are allowed to damage property as they see fit. Nope, no law that allows pets to damage property. :shrug

if it's on my property it is automatically viewed as a threat because it wasn't asked to come here, people included.

I'm amazed and appalled by the cruelty and hatefulness in these posts. I have over 200 expensive chickens on my farm as well as my own domestic cats and a number of neighborhood ferals. They have never bothered the birds in any way, but then young chicks are securely penned at all times. Cats are, in my opinion, intelligent & wonderful pets who bring a great deal of joy to many people including me. The cats are not to blame for being feral or running lose - the owners (if there are any)are responsible and need to bear the blame. These are innocent creatures folks, just trying to survive. We've had starving ferals come to our place & they never bothered any of the chickens. I suggest you contact an organization that helps feral cats, such as Alley Cat & see if they have someone in your area who will come and trap the cats & relocate. If one or some of the cats belong to your neighbor(s), be civilized & go over and talk to them about the problem.

Me too!!! As someone who carries spiders outside on a sheet of paper and opens windows and doors to let flies and bees out of the house, I simply cannot understand why anyone would let their poor chickens get mauled to death.

I disagree. When you have to overly protect your animals by penning them all day it is cruel to your animals. Why do you have to do this and waste all your money and yet those feral cats or dogs come in your yard and terrorize them. I'm as much of an animal lover as the next person but once there is a threat on my animals the game is over and something needs to be done.
