Can I spray paint my chickens feet?

There are several livestock marking paints out there...

I’ve never used them for chickens though... just be sure to read the labels... I think some are soy based, some are latex... I forget for sure though...

They’re made to stay on for about a week... so not real permanent.... so not nearly as messy as blue kote in that sense.

I think some of the other suggestions might be a better solution however.

Edit:
I did a real quick search and this one came up... but again read labels to be sure before using anything

I'd not spray paint any animals. But I have used a dot of non toxic kids paint on top of the heads of chicks to keep track of them, just never use red or the others will pick at it. KoolAid and Manic Panic vegan hair color can also be safely used to color animals if they are pale enough.

I tried fingernail polish berfore to mark babie so I could tell them apart. Now I use zip ties. I would not recommend that you use spray paint. if you do glow in the dark would be funny. But please dont!

If your dead set on spray painting them, get an old window cleaner spray bottle, clean it, the use foods coloring to "spray paint"them. I usually paint the Silkies for Easter, the grand kids love it! It last a few weeks then the rain washes it out. Just don't get it in their eyes.

I just thought of something.

Do you happen to free range your birds?
You could keep them all in the coop...grab one and treat it then put it outside of the coop. Continue until you have none left in the coop.

I have used BluKote to mark my broody hens, since I have 5 ameraucanas that look alike and take turns being broody all summer. I spray a blue spot on their breast to make sure I know which one was last broody. That would work on a leg unless the legs are grey or black.

So it’s between getting up early and doing all the work at once... or staying up late and painting chooks?

Hmmmm .....we’re gonna have some pretty birds :lau

I’m kidding, your approach is what I have done... but I don’t free range, I just let each one out into the run after they’ve been doctored....

I try to get up early enough that they are still on the roost and will stay on the roost.... and use a dim head lamp so they ( mostly) stay put till it’s their turn... they’re chickens so they don’t always understand the procedure, but it mostly works.
