Can I use a broody in the fall?

I've got a very determined broody and would like nothing more than to see her with chicks. I've got a few questions:
Is it possible to just stick hatchery/TSC chicks under her?
Is it safe for her to raise the chicks in the fall?
What happens if the other chickens pick on them? (she's the lowest in the pecking order)
I have a buff that has raised many hatchery chicks. I just put them under her in the evening. She has even raised a couple of turkeys! She is broody right now and I am confident she will do a good job this fall. I have found leaving Mom and chicks in the coop with the rest of the flock works the best. The rest of the flock don't seem threatened by the little ones and accept them to the flock. Plus Mom is very good at protecting her babies.
