can i use this as a run?

Defiantly add hardware cloth. I used the same kennel as a grown out pen for my guineas and I had a racoon climb and reach in from the top and get some of them from the roost.... I had only done hardware cloth on the bottom thinking racoons only reached in while standing.

wow yes my area is pretty bad with raccoons i planned on wrapping from bottom to top with a floor apron of hardware cloth, i figured with the holes it was too big but overall you like the kennel?

Yes we had it already and weren’t using it and it fit perfectly under the playhouse. As long as chicken math doesn’t strike you and you all some roosts it should work well. Mine doesn’t have the roof since the floor of the playhouse is on the top we had to add a couple piece of wood to secure that. I’d just make sure the roof is nice and secure.

I have 6 bantams i was going to cover it in hardware mesh, i have a raised coop so overall would be 10x4 space with access to the yard under super vision, and cut an access in the rear of the run to cut through the metal to access from coop
I use a very similar dog kennel as a run for my 12 hens. I covered the kennel in poultry wire and cut the wire so the door would still open. It is attached directly to the coop and has roosts on the back end. In warmer weather about half of the hens roost out there. Almost every day (weather permitting), I open the door up to a larger uncovered run. Most days the run is opened to the yard and the chickens roam freely. If I don't open the run to the yard at least two hens escape anyway.
