Can i wrap aluminum around a light bulb to make a heating source for chicks?

There is water but it was dried i had just woken up and refilled them with water right after i took the photo...

You really need a bigger space for the chicks. You need to make sure they NEVER run out of water. So a larger amount. Move the light so the chicks aren't over heating. This is really all they need, Food, Water and correct temperature Good Luck Sweetie

One of my baby quails went blind! He cant open his eyes i went threw so much trouble to get his eyes to open... At this point ive had enough i turned the light bulb off and the quails just peeped the loudest peeps they can ever do... And kinda sleeped in one pile one on top of eachother my heart melted... So i turned the light bulb back on and they stopped peeping im using a regular light bulb thats the problem... And it is strong that my eyes get blinded for moments... So i was thinking why not wrap aluminum foil around the glass of the bulb to make the light disappear and make the heat spread threw the aluminum? They are 12 day old quails and now i cant sleep the night thinking about them.. I live in baghdad iraq and its kinda cold here.. About 25 degrees celcius so i really need a solution for them

Ok what you need to do is find another box or a bigger box, then tape them together so the chicks can move between them freely, keep the light in one box and the other box dark and cooler with somthing shielding them from the light put your water in a place were they can see it but its not too hot that it evaporates. I dont know what to do about the chick with the bad eyes though.

Do you have another option for a brooder? Cardboard isn't a great option. Do you have a big plastic tote box? You can make a brooder with that. Even a plastic square hamper would work. What wattage bulb are you using? People have even used their bathtubs as brooder. Your chicks are cramped and either too hot or too cold.

Great advice above.. the chick with the eye problem, how is it’s eyes close. Are they matted/stuck closed. If so use a quip wet it with warm water and gently run it over its eyes.. that may help. With the cramped conditions that maybe causing the problems with its eyes not the brightness of the light.

You could also take a red sharpie marker and color the bulb, a lot safer than aluminum foil (that could even cause a fire). It’s not an ideal way to do it but it would work, especially since your limited on recourses at the time.

I agree bigger area for those babies. Taping two boxes together is a good idea if you have nothing else. I use a dog kennel for mine. Think outside the box look around the house and find something bigger that will work.

Their behavior is the best way to tell when they are comfortable. If they pile up tight under the lamp, they're cold. If they try to escape the lamp, they are hot.

The chicks are about 15 days old
The temp under bulb is 35 celcius

At over 2 weeks old, 30*C is warm enough, so you could use a weaker bulb if you have one, or put it up higher. Make sure it is stable. Low night temperatures will be a problem for them until they are a little older.

Are they able to get in and out of your brooder box?
How are they doing now? [Hint: we'd love more pictures]

Hello..Do you own a heating pad?
That light bulb should work for the time being. Only heat part of the Brooder they sleep in. Make sure feed and water is available 24/7.
Happy babies only peep around and won't pile up if warm enough. They will eat and drink then go back to the heat if it's set correctly.

I got the dates mixed up sorry these chicks are exactly 9 days old... And no they cant get out of the brooder and heres pictures of thier new bigger home.

No sadly i dont have a heat pad. and yes i reduced the pebbles for more water and no they dont pile up in thier sleep they all sleep seaperately at random positions yet they still peep so loudly.. Heres the new home!

And yes i will try to put warm water as only one eye is open to that chick... Im gonna go sleep now ill inform you if anything happens
