Solved Can people stop responding to 10 year old threads?

Something I've noticed on this site is how frequently people (especially new members) resurrect ancient threads and ask OP questions. It really messes up the flow of the website, because I'll see an emergency thread pop up, go to answer it and see a time-stamp from like 2007 or something. It also provides outdated information for people arriving to the site. Is there any way we can fix this or have something implemented to stop people replying to such old threads?

Just thought I'd bring it up. Hope everyone's having a great day!
I wouldn't suggest deleting any threads after they're a certain age, because I still find helpful information from old threads. Maybe something that locks them, but never delete them. And maybe, have a place where the thread starter can unlock them if they're looking to update something. Like lock after a year, but thread starter can unlock to update?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with 'old' threads. Some are full of great information. If the dates bother you please just ignore the thread.

Maybe you could give the owner the choice to archive their thread after their question has been answered.
Noooo!!!!
I have been on forums where this is a feature and uhg. You get a LOT of people asking a question, getting ONE answer and going "Thx. Locked!" without ever considering that the first person might not be the best person and may, in fact, be horribly wrong.

You also get people getting wildly territorial over their threads and locking them because other people asked questions and that can easily cross the line to downright rude.

It just shuts down conversation (literally) and gives some people way too much of a power trip. Was anyone around for the Homesteading Today forum debacle, where one mod went mad with power, locked threads and banned folks left and right and they lost like 40% of the long-term members in a matter of weeks?

Hmmm...maybe, when was it @RiverOtter ?
I know they've lost a lot with their upgrades the past couple-three years,
not the forum it used to be 6-7 years ago.
