Can people who never touched a chicken raise chickens!?

that give you room for 40 hens.

WOOOO 40 hens! That's what Im talking about! LOL My hubby will D.I.E when i tell him I would like 40! ROFL I'm thinking I'm lucky to have a dozen but hey I'm willing to talk him into that one! Why not make it a bit bigger JUST IN CASE...he may find he loves them too.

I'm starting out with 15, and I've never touched a chicken before, either. I worry about lots of things yet, but I'm trying to calm my fears by reading BYC and waiting patiently for May 7

I never touched a live chicken before either but my wife got me 5 RIR's at the feed store one day about a week a go and now I am hooked big time, we are not allowed roosters were we are so I just have 4 girls and a cookeral(sp?).

I was always a little afraid of chickens, their feet kinda bothered me and I was attacked by a rooster once.

Last May I fostered 12 chicks for my brother-in -law and that was it. We kept 5 of them and there is no turning back. I am totally obsessed now.

Enjoy them.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere! We live in suburbia- I had never having touched a chicken in my life (except in 2nd grade when our class project was inubating/hatching eggs) until we got ours! You are sooooooo luccky to have 20 acres!

I would build as large a coop as i could afford, it won't be to big for them and you will already have that expansion done. You know " the expansion all chicken people have to add because they Thought their coop was big enough"

You should start a journal or something so I can keep tabs on how it goes for you. I have started on just so I can remember their babyness! I don't get mine until May 23
