I have a mixed flock of 14, 13 week old pullets. This morning, our favorite "Pooter" started crowing for the first time. It was as if she was saying "Alright it's breakfast time, come and feed us." I feed them mash in the morning and evening, and as soon as I put the dish in the coop, she stopped. She's been quiet ever since then. She's never made a sound and doesn't even cluck as her sisters do. She's a Columbian Wyandotte , is beautifully colored and has the best personality you could ever ask for in a chicken.
My question is, if she turns out not to be a roo, do hens really crow. We aren't allowed to have roos, and we'd be devastated, if we had to rehome her. I'll post pics, when I let them out this afternoon.
