Can small, flighty breeds avoid birds of prey?

I also heard of shamoo and malay as powerful fighters kicking flogging raccrooons in the head during the day.

Has anyone that owned them seen this?

someone that has pheonix said their phoenix rooster spurred and attacked a fox, A lot of predators get confused by prey that does not scream and run and starts attacking them. I have never seen it happen, i have seen them attack dogs but the attacks dont seem to get past a dogs thick skin and you can tell the dog does not take it serious.

I have seen them attack cats also but I never see any damage to the cat or any skin breaking.
I have a game hen & when she has chicks, I have seen a dog make a run at her and the chicks -- the game hen tried to move the chicks to safety but when she could not, she took flight & met the dog hitting it in the face (and she can hit like some roosters) sending it yelping. Of course, it was a 7-8 month old puppy (and not a determined adult dog), and I wanted it to learn an early lesson. I could have stopped it but knew the game hen would get the best of the encounter. The dog is past one year old and doesn't bother the chickens . . . lesson learned.

A friend down the road wanted some Guineas so I hatched her some eggs under a prized game hen & sent the game hen and keets down to her place so the Guineas would grow up there. The hen raised them for about 6 weeks but got caught by a coyote -- all the keets survived & came home the first encounter-- no doubt the mother Game hen met that coyote head on to protect those keets. Over the next year, the coyote picked those Guineas off here and there (my friend saw the coyote in broad daylight more than once). Two Guineas survived to 2 years but were finally gotten. My point is the Game hen, being the first to be gotten, sacrificed herself for her young.

Hmm I raised OEGB and they could fly really well but in the end one got caught by an hawk so I say tried to at least raise an rooster like even an Australorp rooster would be to a good use b/c if u only raised hen its more of a chance one will be taken. If u want flighty breeds try getting red jungle fowl there pretty wild and flighty and makes a lot of noise when spook.

Anconas and hamburgs are good. I've had some white faced black Spanish hens that were pretty flighty. The only problems with some of those more independent small flighty breeds is they may lay eggs all over the place. Some you may find many you won't. I had a hamburg that slept 50 ft in the trees. I had that bird for a few years before a fox got her. I don't think I ever handled her after I put her outside. She was the only bird that wouldn't go in the coop at night.
