Can somebody please explain......

the salt calibration on a hygrometer and

the ice water calibration on a thermometer

I read them on another post but didnt understand

Hygro:

Thermo:
fill a glass with ice, then fill the rest of the glass with the coldest water you can get from the tap, or put some in the freezer for about 45 min.
Put the thermo probe in the glass leave sit for about 5 mins the temp should be 32 degrees.
