Hi there, so 3 weeks ago I hatched 7 beautiful chicks for the first time. Is it possible to tell the gender and colour type from my pictures or is it still too early? (Also everything I find on the white one has a black dot on the back of its head from birth. This one was pure yellow and only these past few days started developing these colours on its head and 2 or three on the bottom of its back.) As I say I'm new, they are corturnix quail and I believe the celadon gene is in there too as that's how they were advertised. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

I'm not the best at this but here are my guess, 1-8 (started from top left and moving to bottom right):
1. Looks like a pharaoh/wild or brown to me, female (no reddish chest/cheek, a lot of spots on her chest)
2. Either red range or extended brown (Tibetan/rosetta), not sexable by color
3. Looks like a pharoah/wild or brown, male (no spckles + reddish chest)
4. Looks like a red range tuxedo, not sexable
5. Looks like extended brown, not sexable
6. Extended brown, maaaaybe tuxedo but I'm made to understand some minimal white markings are part of extended brown, not sexable
7. English white with maybe pharaoh/wild underneath the white, not sexable
8. Extended brown, not sexable

Thankyou for your response. Number 2 and number 8 by picture are the same quail. I maybe should have posted some pics of the top too as number 3 as you said looks male but far from pharoh as he's all the spotty all over? Could be wrong as I say I'm just reading up and appreciate all feedback. I have included some pics of the top too and the numbers on the pictures match the numbers on the first set of pictures (how I know who hatched first to last)

Thankyou so much again

1 - hen
2 - not feather sexable
3 - roo
4 - not feather sexable
5 - not feather sexable
6 - not feather sexable
7 - not feather sexable
8 - not feather sexable

For the ones that aren't feather sexable you will need to wait until they're at least six weeks old to vent sex, or you can wait to see if you get eggs or crows.

Thankyou, just to confirm your using the first pictures? Just so I know which ones you mean. Thankyou

I was using the first pictures. I actually wrote the response out shortly after you posted, but for some reason I either forgot to hit the Post reply button or it didn't post.
Thankyou :) would you agree with the first comment on colours too? I don't doubt it I just mean as a second opinion. Thankyou

Going by the first pic:
1 - pharaoh
2 - rosetta
3 - white pied
4 - not sure, but pied (tuxedo is a type of pied)
5 - not sure, but possibly tibetan. Does it have dark feet?
6 - rosetta tuxedo
7 - pharaoh

Is that dotty one really a pharoh? That does surprise me his feathers are so different looking. And yes the one in pic 5 does have dark feet but pink toes. Thankyou
