Can someone identify this prehistoric garden flora that has made its home in my yard?

I’m not even sure it was a crookneck! The orangish squash was squat and warty. I sliced a little bit off of the neck and it tasted…not like a crookneck. Which I have eaten before.

That's an old-fashioned crookneck that's been allowed to grow to maturity rather than harvested young.

They get tougher and strong-flavored as they age with large, hard seeds -- more pumpkin-like.
