Thank you! We barried the chick, it was VERY people friendly, ALWAYS wanted to be by someone and cared less about other chicks.
I could never suffocate a chick. After a few years of hatching and raising chicks, I can now dispatch any sick/injured chicks myself by wrapping in a paper towel and using a sharp hatchet or cleaver. If you cannot do that, I recommend a small, dark, warm place to make the chick as comfortable as possible, and let it pass naturally. The chick's body will shut down system by system which puts it into shock. It'll fall asleep and die. I wish you all the best in making the decision that is best for you and your chick.
I'd go to your vet... only once have we had to cull a bird immediatly and we broke her kneck because she was herniating....I cant imagine suffocation everybody has felt how it feels to not beable to breath.. its terrifying.....
Thank you. I just hope I will be good and ready for if I come across this again.. What is that method? How do you go about doing it?
No it's ok and thank you! I'll take a look at them..If you visit the two links in my first post in this thread, you'll become more familiar w/ the method, and how it works. On one of 'em, you'll see that they've included my comments as to improvements that should be made upon their instructional. And, as tragic as this has been for you, know that I will do the math and make this into a much simpler process for folks to do. I want 'em to have complete confidence that they will be able to provide their chicks w/ the gentlest and most peaceful end, preferably w/ common items that will most probably be readily available, so as to eliminate any delays.
Once I've finished my research, I'll post it and a tutorial on http://www.gallusgallusdomesticus.com (and update your thread w/ the link ~'-)
Tryin' to help folks on here is difficult, and when they're under the stress you've experienced, it's almost impossible to provide the right answers, right when you need it most. I do apologize for missing your posts ... I try 'n watch, but these forums don't seem to always update correctly.
