Can someone please help me find out what this raptor is?

I wish I knew an answer to your question about keeping it off. Are they any decoys you could put up that would intimidate an eagle?

I can't imagine much would scare off eagles! What I originally thought were hawks, were actually vultures. Seeing one take off makes me think that vultures are the B52s of the bird world! We have red-tailed hawks, Cooper hawks, owls, and a mated pair of bald eagles, the bald eagles live about 5-6 miles from my house, I have only seen them flying over the road by the park they live in. Very cool to watch all these birds!! Best bet is to have a cover to your run. My husband took our net off our run. Haven't lost a chicken to a bird, but lost 6 to another predator....Haven't lost any since my dog stays out most of the night!! ......

I think you have a turkey vulture too. They only eat carion. Out near farm country you'll see them a lot. They can be quite big too and what you have is too big for a hawk. I had one perch on my clothes line pole. They aren't pretty to look at but have an important job that doesn't include your chickens!
