This is the first time hatching eggs. My first pip has pipped on the wrong end 29 hours ago. I made a zip about three hours ago and of course no progress. I did not Cut through the white membrane. What should I do? Wait a bit longer or start pulling off membranes. It seems somewhat lively. But it’s certainly not progressing at all on its own. I took a picture of what I can see inside. A big pink blob beside its beak that raises up and down when it breathes. That must be it’s belly right?? Can anyone advise me on what to do next?

Ok so I’ve pulled back some of the top membrane to about halfway around. It’s pushing like it wants out. So I will put it back in the incubator and wait I guess? Not sure if anyone is reading this.

Remember not to leave it out to long, a big reason why the membrane dries. My duck is currently hatching out the wrong way and I'm letting it do it's thing.

I would continue slowly and carefully peeling the egg off. If you come across blood, stop! But having pipped so long ago I would be surprised if that little chick wasn't ready to come out. When I assisted mine I was able to remove the entire egg and membrane, then immediately place him back in the incubator to warm up and dry off.

Apologies. No one was responding and I was kind of panicking so I created a new one.
What is that brownish part below the part that I peeled the membrane from?
I’ve only been taking it out for about 20 minutes at a time and then I put it back in with More wet paper towels.
I have to drive my son into town and then I will come back and try and remove some more.

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow. What brownish part?

A good way to tell if a chick is ready to hatch is to watch if it yawns. If it is yawning wait for it to absorb the yolk. If it is not yawning then make sure the veins will not bleed. Then it might be time to help a little at a time. The more the chick does on its own the stronger it will be.

It is probably just the feathers sticking to the membrane. It seems you have peeled a lot off, but maybe slow down a bit. That’s a long time to be stuck in an egg, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that the chick wants to be exposed to cold air. If I were you I would stick the chick back inside the incubator and keep a close eye on it

Had to go take my son to the day home and when I got back I grabbed my bowl with a warm wet cloth and more paper towel to continue operation-chick-out. Went downstairs and he was out already. He is all over the place trying to stand. Cheeping loudly and feisty as can be. He’s still stuck the egg shell through his cord, is that normal? He’s dragging the shell all around with him.
