I have heard of other birds dying of fright/heart failure, so I don't see why it couldn't happen to chickens.

Did you have a necropsy done? If not, you can't say that was the cause of death.I had one drop dead from a car backfiring, dropped just as suggested on the back legs
out. Can't rule on multiple birds but can say I've seen a single one "have the big one. "![]()
Also can't say it wasn't the cause.....Most logical....Did you have a necropsy done? If not, you can't say that was the cause of death.
also if the chicks are outside, is it possible they got too cold last night? I don't know your set-up or climate, just offering another possibility to think about.
I know night time temps here are below freezing now and we have had multiple short power outages (that could take out a heat source) due to ice on lines/down trees
Do look into having a necropsy done. Anytime one loses more than one bird they really should have a necropsy done to find the cause of death. At this point they didn't have marks on them at all I didn't see any. Can't hotwire fence my kids go out there a lot. Also the one that got away made it out to the run. Dogs could have been barking at something but I dunno. Since it was dark. Now them trying to fly around to get away yes maybe I'm just gonna rebuild coop way better and go from there
