Can we build it? Yes we can... probably... kind of!

tell him we are all enablers!

Yeah, because THAT'S what I need. More enablers :lau

Today is hatch day for our chicks! I got a series of 3am texts when a couple of the girls' chicks were hatching. They were SO excited! So far they have 3 Marans - I'm not super familiar with Marans chicks but they look to be either Black Copper or Blue from the pictures. And also a little yellow chick with a gray dot on his head that came from a blue egg (some of the eggs are from various breeds of hens, but all from BCM Roos.) I'm thinking it's probably a splash Ameraucana/Maran mix at first glance.

Meanwhile, I set my eggs 3 hours earlier than the girls and I'm still waiting. While I'm kind of glad that they didn't hatch in the middle of the night, I was up checking all night anyway and I'm ready to get this show on the road. 12 out of 15 have pipped so far. Come on, peeps!

It's getting real now! How exciting :jumpy

Oh my peeps I popped 3 eggs under my silky a week ago did thew halloween hatch but all where cockerel :he

I would die if all of ours ended up being cockerels!! lol. I'm sending the eggshells to an Avian DNA lab in Miami so we'll know the genders by the time they're a week old.

I feel like all I've done is sit in front of the incubator today. I started the day with 15 eggs. Two were DIS, so I'm down to 13. I have 9 babies so far and the other 4 have pipped but we're still waiting. I have to be present for each hatch so I can make sure to take the eggshell and label it for sexing and put leg bands on the chicks as they hatch, so I really hope these last 4 chicks hatch before I go to bed for the night.

The girls' incubator (which is at their house with them) has 10 eggs, and so far it looks like all 10 are going to hatch. All have pips, all but 3 have hatched already. They're over the moon with their new babies! They're going to keep 4 pullets and possibly a cockerel (the county ordinance technically says no, but they only really have 2 neighbors and both are super excited for them to have chickens, and even said they should keep a rooster.) So we'll see what they decide.

I did go over yesterday and work on the coop, but forgot to take pictures. I'll take some next week when we go over to finish up.

Your going to allot tons of fun will need a larger coop if you keep all
maybe a nice 6 x 10 building :lau

Hah! My husband would die. I'm only keeping a couple and the rest we'll sell. But it IS tempting. My coop holds 20 and I only have 6 at the moment... but no, I'm not going to have that many birds right now. I'm maxing out at 10 until we build our house on the property where the chickens are.
