Can you accurately sex day-old Olive Egger chicks (Legbar-Welsummer)?

At 16 days old, #3 (orange band) sure looks like the other girls! I know it's still early, but they seem to have sorted themselves out.

Our cockerel still looks like a he, although he is very reserved/shy. His feathers are growing in much slower than the others.

The other 3 look almost identical now (other than slightly different shades of brown).

What do you think?

At 3.5 weeks old, our little cockerel, Sunny, is finally feathering out

One of the darker pullets (green band), who seemed like a sure thing at first, has started to develop a little red wattle, earlier than the others. Here she is, compared to Sunny...

Here she is, next to the other pullet who looked just like her at first. These were the two everyone called as pullets from Day 1.

Growing up so fast! Brownie is so pretty! I might try that cross in the future. :):):love

I just hatched 4 chicks from a Cream Legbar rooster x Olive Egger F1 hen (Cream Legbar over Welsummer). It looks like I have 3 pullets and a cockerel. What do you think?

Here are close ups of the chicks...

#1: Pullet
#2: Possibly pullet
#3: Possibly cockerel
#4: Cockerel

Lines that go to the ear, sometimes thin, are cockerels.
Lines that go to the ear and past, sometimes pointing down once past the ear, sometimes thick, are pullets.

Perhaps I should of went through all the comments before posting. It's now a bit more obvious what everybody is now. Adorable chicks anyways!!! :love:love

So green band is either 1 or 2, not sure which one. Assuming #2 it could be a cockerel? #3 keeps showing signs it's a pullet. It's the one in the orange band above. Looks & acts really girly lol

Looks like 1 boy and 3 girls still to me. My flock is a similar cream legbar crosses mix and the three brown chested ones look like the girls in my flock

At 6 weeks old, it's clear only 2 of the 4 will have a crest. Here are our crested babies, the most mahogany pullet (originally mistaken for a cockerel) and our little cockerel, Sunny.

So, clearly our Legbar rooster is heterozygous for crest. He passed it to exactly 50% of his offspring from this cross, and also passed it to 50% of his offspring from our Dominique cross (need-someone-who-can-read-barred-head-spots-like-tea-leaves-cream-legbar-x-dominque-chicks)

Cute :) So you only got the one boy and the 3 darker chipmunks all girls? How great it seems like the auto-sexing got passed on.

I find it interesting that you have to wait to find out about the crests, as opposed to a muff/beard, which is apparent as fluffy cheeks on my ee chicks from day one.
