Can you eat meat from a duck with an infected phallus?

Hello, I have a pekin Duck who has struggled with a prolapsed phallus for a few months. He had the gangrene part snipped off and was treated with antibiotics. He seemed much better, though it would pop out it would go back in eventually. Now after a few months, it has gotten infected and is REALLY swollen and obviously bothering him a lot. I’m considering putting him down, because I now don’t have the means for the 4 hour one way trip to the avian vet. If I put him down, can I still use the meat? Or is that a bad idea incase the infection has spread?

I would probably dispatch him, start butchering, and make a decision as you see what you are dealing with.

I would cut off any part that is obviously infected or unusual. But for any part that looks normal, I would assume it's safe to eat after cooking.

(Unless you're concerned about eating meat from an animal that previously had antibiotics. But it sounds like those were several months ago, so probably not an issue now.)
