can you feed chickens small amounts of meat?

I live trying to find new things to feed my flock. They enjoy it but i think i enjoy it more just to watch how crazy they get with each treat. My chickens are my tv lol. If you think its funny to watch them eat meat try yogurt. First time i gave my chickens yogurt was priceless

Oh yes, chickens eat pretty much anything and everything! Little cannibals even like to eat chicken! I've seen a white rock of mine actually go 'mousing' and catch a couple mice as crazy as that sounds! If they don't like what they're eating then they'll let it be. So go ahead and try giving them some different things to eat! It's fun to watch them!

I put kitchen scraps in my compost pile and the chickens clean it out! They also turn my pile with all their scratching. They get meat, eggs, veggies... but they LOVE pasta!

I have some left over cured Ham in my frig that we had about a month ago. It has a little mold on one piece. Can I give it to my chickens? It does not have a bad odor. But feels a little slimmy.

can you do it or is it not safe. is it good for protien or will it make them have a stomach upset. should i do it. if it goes ahead it will be a rare occasion because when i shoot a wild rabit, take it home and skin, gut and clean it i give the end product to the dogs and i have little scraps no more than a handful and give it to them. they like it and sorta fight over it

Chickens are not herbivores.

I don't know where people got the idea that meat was bad for them (and all this animal-protien-free food is ridiculous)

Probably not the worst thing you could feed them nor the best. As far as being "bad/rotten" I doubt it, perhaps just rinse it off a bit (after cutting off the moldy part), but the high salt content of the ham would be hard on their kidneys. If they're pet chickens, I wouldn't do it, but if you intend to slaughter them at some point, it probably won't kill them. You could grind up the ham and soak it in a lot of plain water to draw out some of the salt, but that just sounds like a lot of work.

I gave them the whole chunk. They weren't all that thrilled with it. I feed them lots of different things. Maybe they just weren't that hungry. I should have diced it up. I think they would have eaten it that way. But it did seem like more work than I wanted to do today. I have another piece left I think I will dice it up in a few days for them. Thanks for the feed backs.

I have live traps on my property to catch fox. I know people that eat fox meat and was wondering if I could feed the fox meat to my chickens. especially since they love any other type of meat that I have put in their coop. If so should it be cooked or uncooked or does it make a difference

even not so small amounts of meat, if there is some fat in it. My guess is that, given free choice, they would not touch grains.

Feeding the chickens fox sounds like barnyard justice to me.. I love it!!

The chickens will avoid it, if they don't like it. They are a lot smarter then us humans give them credit for.
