Of my 13 or so week old chicks, my two females have...well...strange feathers. They seem really soft and they never lay completely flat, though it is mainly the feathers along their back. One is a black sex link the other is, well, I have no clue what she is (would like guesses on that, too, if possible). Anyway, they don't stick up very far, just a bit, always giving them a slightly puffed up look. I was looking and I know some of the hatcheries sell frizzled chicks in an assortment of breeds. These came from TSC and they told me they have no clue what hatchery they got them from

so here they are. Pardon the not so great cell phone pics.

First is Raven... the black sex link. She used to be really black, hence the name.

Next is Sophie, the one I have no clue on the breed. This is the flattest either of their feathers ever lay, generally a bit more puffy like Raven has hers in the pic.

Thanks.

How I understand it, they are either frizzled or they're not..... I don't think you can have a partially or slightly frizzled chicken. But, I think I ran across something once that mentioned a handful of OTHER feather traits that exist in chickens as well. So, maybe it is some trait other than frizzle.

Hmmmm....I guess I need to do some kind of search for feather traits. I kept thinking it was just my imagination or something but it just doesn't go away. It is really nice. I LOVE snuggling them because they are so soft.

All of my chickies are just hatchery birds anyway, so not wanting show quality. It really is cute.
