Can you hatch eggs using the heat from a refrigerator?

Tldr; yes

I had recently acquired a pair of coturni quail and was super excited about hatching out their eggs.

I was waiting for the incubator to come in the mail but due to the rona everything was delayed so my dad suggested that the heat from the fridge should suffice so we tried it.

After day 10 we found out that only 2 eggs had developed.

About day 16 we got the incubator and placed the 2 developed eggs in there to finish off.

Sadly only 1 chick hatched but he only lived for a few days. (didn't take any pics of that)

Sure, there is a lot of heat coming out of it but you just had no way to control temperature to the point that you could hit precisely 99-100F.
