Can you use this size wood for coop?

15 - 20 feet long!!!

That is some MAJOR lumber you got there.

About the "ripping" that means taking your long boards and cutting them LONG WAYS (lengthwise) into thinner, narrower boards... so you could take your 2X10, draw 3 lines lengthwise dividing it equally and cut it into strips. Each strip approximately 2X3.5 aka almost a 2X4.

If you don' tknow how to cut it yourself, you might be able to call a lumberyard or sawmill nearby and bring some to them for this purpose.
OR
You could buy a circular saw & a table mount at Lowes which makes a table saw. I would NOT recommend freehanding (cutting without a guide) with a saw any boards that long, specially for a novice such as myself or perhaps you.

You have a fantastic amount of lumber there of really great quality to just "have on hand". If your truly not builder type people, you might look in your local paper for a general handyman or carpenter, who you might be able to help build your coop and pay him a minor amount of money.

You can pick up a low-end table saw for about $100 at any home improvement store (I prefer Lowe's...)

WELL WELL WELL worth it if you are doing any building projects at all, and would make quick work of your lumber to rip down into narrower lengths.

My el-cheapo model does great rip cuts, had a fence and ruler right on there so you can set it to exactly whatever width you want and have a perfect cut every time.

Mine also has an angle attachment to get perfect angles.

Best of all, unless you are cutting big plywood, most cuts you can do with just one person.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my table saw!! I buy the cheaper cuts of lumber like 2x4 and then rip them down all the time!

Cool that sovels what a rip is. my hubby has cut lumber before hes just never heard of ripping before. The only way we have been so blessed with so much lumber is the previous people that had the proprty left it behind when they moved so it came with the land.

FELLA , MOST houses are NOT built that sturdy .

2x4 x 8's
2x4 x 10's
2x4 x 12's

Were all used for OUR COOP AND OUR RUN . YOU GOT THAT MANY ? BUILD YOURSELF THE BEST AND LARGEST COOP AND RUN AS POSSIBLE ......

WISH we had your problem of NOT knowing what to do with that much wood . LOL

With all that lumber I say rip some down, build a HUGE coop and have many, many happy chickies. Heck, with all that lumber you could build a small barn and host lots of animals!! I am sooooo jealous!!!

dr8goons, you absolutely should not use these 15-20 foot 2x10's for anything or any purpose. Leave the lumber pile where it is, and I'll be over this weekend to take it off your hands. No, no, just say, "Thank you, Joe," and your gratitude will suffice.

well , if you will soon have that many and probably more to come later , I would at least build a 20x20 CHICKEN COOP and a

20 x20 RUN . ALL PREDATOR PROOF .

Our whole perimeter round the coop and run has a 18 in. ft. trench and buried chicken wire and recovered .

SO , chickens have FULL access of coop and run . they go under the coop when its raining . ONLY time they go inside the coop is LATE LATE afternoon before dark . OTHER than that they enter to LAY ONLY .

hubby built them a ladder to enter and exist the coop .
