Canadians check in here....

I'm in Prince George BC!
I am currently building a pallet coop to house 14 already-laying hens, coming to me second hand. I am crash coursing my way into what to do when they get here, my original plans were just to get meat birds in the summer....but it snowballed when opportunity arose...

Welcome from now wet and raining Saskatchewan! At least it's not snow LOL. I too have recently inhereted 6 new girls for my happy hen haram. Robert my Wyndotte X Rooster is very proud of his 30 girls and they are keeping us and our extended family supplied. Such a pleasure to deal with the girls too. Chicken math means we're now awaiting 25 minorca pullet chicks in early May as well. Gotta love it!!

Welcome from now sunny Saskatchewan and have fun with your coop! Chickens are very theraputic, no stress!

Thanks, wdkelin! Looks like you are having the same balmy temperatures as we are here. It's great to get a sampling of summer so soon, isn't it?
I know what you mean about chickens being therapeutic. That's just one of the things I love about them.

DH and I are looking forward to working on the coop. The plan is we will get at it and hopefully finish it this weekend, rain or shine. Then we can start the search for our little flock of 3 - 5 max.

Yes, I hope we do have some good luck, because keeping 3-5 is unfortunately what we are restricted to for the moment. We only have a 1/3 acre lot in a subdivision, and we need to remain friendly with our neighbours. Since less birds make less noise (in theory), I figure this will help us to stay on their good side ... so we'll start with 3, and that way we have room for 2 more!

And then maybe we'll look into moving somewhere with more property!
