Canadians check in here....

I've gotten some good results using kijiji here in sk. Only condition is I want to pick up in person. Seeing the coop and birds in person can tell you most of what you need to know about a person your dealing with.

Hi Comfreygirl;

I am interested in adding chanteclers to my flock next spring.  I am 2.5 hours northwest of Edmonton, so a long way away from you.  Do you know of a source for these birds that is a little closer to me?

Many thanks,
Karen

Try duckopolis. They are fairly close to you I think. Not sure what their breeding now but they might have something or know who does.

Hi ho;

I love BYC. You guys know everything!!

I haven't heard of duckopolis before but it looks pretty awesome. I have a son who isn't so far away from their location so that makes things easier. One the breeds they are promoting is the Buff Orpington. One of the other BYC members (and is about an hour away from me) highly recommends this breed for our tough local conditions. So far no Chanteclers but I live in hope.

Thanks for the suggestions, this seems very promising. No complaints about my Red Sussex Crosses, but I do want to move into heritage breeds.

My boys are 9 and 11 and yes they are very excited they picked their chickens out from Freys flyer. So I guess I couldn't serve them their chickens for dinner.

I also have alot coyotes around me. You can hear them loud at night howling. Previous owners of the house used to have chickens and they used a large dog kennel to let them range in during the day but because it didn't have protection from the top he would come home to his chickens being slaughtered. I was hesitant at first to get them because of this and I didn't want it to be traumatic for the the boys.
I have 16 acres so free ranging would be great but I also have a weimaraner which is a bird dog and I'm afraid that she will go at them.
My day Olds arrive June 28 and I think around their coop I will build a much bigger run so they can range out more.

@Ajayk good luck bringing chicks home tomorrow! Let us know how it goes
